Phillip F. Amsden

Phillip F. Amsden, 63, of Hebron, IN, formerly of Momence, IL, died on Friday (November 5, 2010) as the result of a truck accident near Hobart, IN. He was born on October 26, 1947, in Blue Island, IL, the son of Thomas J. and Lucille J. Donovan Amsden. He married Patricia Stonecipher on October 2, 1970, in Riverdale, IL. Surviving is his wife: Patricia Amsden of Hebron, IN. Two daughters and two sons-in-law: Brenda and James Spoon, Jr., of Momence, IL; and Cari and Stanley Woo of Bourbonnais, IL. Four brothers and four sisters-in-law: Thomas J. and Norma Amsden of Martinton, IL; James Amsden of St. John, IN; Peter and Joy Amsden of Munster, IN;Daniel and Debbie Amsden of Munster, IN; andSharon Amsden of Las Vegas, NV. One sister and brother-in-law: Bernadine and James Cyborski of Dyer, IN. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Jessica and Austin Spoon and Nena, Samantha and Trenton Woo. Mr. Amsdenwas preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Barry and Joseph Amsden) and four sisters (Leona (Marvin) Gardner, Anne (Larry) Wakefield, Lucille Amsden and Mary Frances Amsden). Mr. Amsden was a semi-truck mechanic for Bosselman Trucking at Loves Truck Stop in Gary, IN. He enjoyed tinkering with motorcycles and small engines, going to flea markets, taking photographs, dancing, the internet and Saturday morning breakfast with his brothers. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received two Purple Hearts and received the Bronze Star with Valor Device, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Memorials: Memorials may be made to the family wishes. Cemetery: Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Visitation: Visitation will be held on Tuesday (November 9, 2010) from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence, IL. Service: The funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday (November 9, 2010) at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence, IL. Military rites will be provided by Momence Honor Guard.
