Doris R. Keller

Family Submitted: Doris R. Keller, 86, of Momence, IL, was born in Beecher City, IL on June 22, 1936. She graduated from Lincoln Bible Institute in 1958 and received her teaching credentials from Eastern Illinois University in 1960. She moved to Momence later that year to teach school. She taught fourth grade for 6 years and then was a substitute teacher for many years after that. It was in Momence where she met her husband, George Keller. They were married on August 11, 1962. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Keller, her parents, Ivan & Irma Black, and two of her sisters, Faye Maloney and Evelyn Franklin. She is survived by her son, Kent Keller and daughter-in-law, Alana Keller of Newnan, GA and her daughter, Lisa Hampton and son-in-law, Mark Hampton of Momence, IL. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Kendal Keller of Tampa, FL and Alana Lauren Hoey, and grandson-in-law, Grant Hoey of Denver, CO. She also has two surviving siblings, Fern Wisener of Tuscon, AZ and Ivan Black, Jr. of Beecher City, IL. Doris loved her family deeply as a wise and sacrificial wife and mother! She also loved roses, especially the ones George would draw and carve for her. She loved to travel, even making it as far as Australia, along with George & Lisa, to visit her son, Kent. After her husband's retirement, Doris & George, along with Lisa & Mark established businesses making their own jewelry, which they sold at art shows and galleries across the USA. She made life-long friendships as a teenager and throughout her life that transcended both time and distance. Together Doris & George faithfully served Jesus Christ in three congregations, Lowell Church of Christ, Manteno Christian Church, and Martinton Church of Christ. They led the ministry to youth at Lowell, including several all-nighters at their home that Kent and Lisa remember fondly. Then in 1978 they left the Lowell Church of Christ to plant a new church in Manteno, IL, closer to home. Doris ministered at Manteno by helping people understand their spiritual gifts and find a place to serve in the congregation. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was eager to join her Savior in heaven. Her family is thankful to God for the blessing she has been to them and so many others.
