Donald Paul Simpson

Donald Paul Simpson, 78, of Momence, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 17, 2016) at his home, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. He was born Nov. 2, 1937, in Momence, the son of Oscar G. and Elsie D. Thomas Simpson. Donald married Sharon Dominick on Aug. 8, 1960, in Aroma Park Township. She survives, of Momence. Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Bonnie Simpson, of Momence, Rusty and Missy Simpson, of Momence, and Tim and Rochelle Simpson, of Momence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Alex Meyer, of Momence, and Donna and Keith Zelhart, of Momence; 11 grandchildren, Justin Simpson and Brenna McLean, Karl and Laura Meyer, Jennifer and Jace McDermitt, Samantha Simpson, Kristopher Meyer, Sarah Zelhart, Krystal and Kaleb Frahm, Danielle Simpson and Chad High, Kollin Simpson and Anna Hunte, Konnor Simpson, and Wayne Simpson; six great-grandchildren, Emersyn and Adleigh McDermitt, Donta and Owen Bass, and Ben and Lukas Meyer. Also surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Ray Johnson, of Momence, Carol and Ken Caslongia, of Bradley; sister-in-law, Nancy Simpson, of Momence; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Kay Simpson, of Momence, and Ray and Jeanne Simpson, of St. Anne. Preceding him in death were his parents; and three brothers, Labe, Gobel, and Frank; and one granddaughter, Nicole Meyer. Don worked as a telephone repairman and was retired from Illinois Bell/AT&T. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Momence, a longtime member of the Momence School Board, Kankakee Bell Credit Union Board member, president and concession director in midget football, and helped with high school football. He loved football. Don looked forward to each Christmas and especially making pounds of candy to give to friends and family. He loved spending time with his family and having everyone get together at the home he built along the river for holidays and celebrations or just anytime. His hobbies also included working in his wood shop and creating heirloom pieces for his family. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
