Carissa J. Chouinard

Carissa J. Chouinard, 23, of Momence, IL, died on May 28, 2026, at the Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. She was born on May 6, 2003, in Kankakee, IL, the daughter of Christopher and Virginia "Gini" Re Chouinard. She is survived by her parents, Chris and Gini Chouinard of Momence, IL. Her two brothers and sister-in-law; Hunter and Katie Chouinard of Momence, IL and Colton Chouinard and significant other; Sarah Victor both of Momence, IL. Her maternal grandmother; Patricia Re of Manteno, IL. Also surviving is her step-grandfather; Dave Martin of St. Anne, IL. Her paternal grandfather; Merl Lee Chouinard of Manteno, IL. Carissa is also survived by her aunts and uncles; Ryan Chouinard and Mike Sonneville, Susan Johnson, Roger and Karen Handtke, Bruce and April Handtke, Maurice Re, Dorothy Re and Arturo Galvez, Annette and Del Colvin, and Donald and Stephanie Re. Also surviving are many cousins. She is preceded in death by her soulmate, Luis A. Barrera, her maternal grandfather; Maurice Re and her paternal grandmother; Anne Wille Chouinard Martin. Carissa worked at Pizza Stone from the time she turned 16 until they recently closed, she also worked as an esthetician, and most recently she trained and became a flight attendant for United Airlines. Carissa graduated from Momence High School in 2021, where she was actively involved. She was a member of the Momence Honor Guard and an all-around athlete. Carissa's favorite sport was softball, but you could find her on the volleyball and basketball court as well. She also was on the cheerleading squad. She attended and graduated from the Naperville Skin Institute in January 2023. She enjoyed her cats; Leo, Kiki and Stinky, as well as painting and drawing. She liked going to concerts with her friends, boyfriend, Luis Barrera, and brothers. When she wasn't hanging out with friends, you could find Carissa fishing with her father, and traveling to various places with her mother. Recently, she began cooking for her family and friends, which she enjoyed. She will be missed by many with her bubbly personality and radiant smile that was contagious that always brightened the room. Cremation rites have been accorded.
