Richard V. Delabre Sr.

Richard 'Dick' V. Delabre Sr., 85, of Bradley, died Thursday (March 14, 2013) in the emergency room at Presence St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley, where he was a member. The Rev. Anthony Nugent will officiate. Burial, with military rites provided by the Momence Honor Guard, will be in All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Bourbonnais. Memorials may be made for Masses or to St. Joseph School. Cotter Funeral Home, Momence, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Delabre was a postal carrier, retiring after 34 years of service. He was born Aug. 26, 1927, in Kankakee, the son of Edward H. Sr. and Rosella Gravelle Delabre. His wife, the former Theresa A. Marlaire, whom he married May 22, 1948, in Bradley, preceded him in death Jan. 8, 2012. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and a member of American Legion Post 766. He was a member of the Retired Postal Carriers and St. Joseph Holy Name Society. He was on the St. Joseph School Board for eight years and a Boy Scout leader on Rainbow Council. Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Carrie and Winston Freund, of O'Fallon, and Marie Delabre and Dale Lorance, of Kankakee; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Kevin Delabre, and Wayne and Leigh Ann Delabre, all of Bourbonnais, and Kenneth Delabre, of Kankakee; nine grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Verna Mae and Vivian 'Bub' Emling, of Bonfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Richard V. Delabre Jr. and John Christopher Delabre; one daughter, Angela Delabre; and one brother, Edward. Cemetery: Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais. Visitation: Visitation will be from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday (March 18, 2013) at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais.
