Dr. Peter P. Mach, D.C., N.D., A.C.

Dr. Peter P. Mach, 91, of Kankakee, died on Wednesday (October 3, 2012) at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. Peter Paul Mach was born to Frank & Evelyn (Szajek) Mach on June 29, 1921 in East Chicago, IN. He attended St. Stanislaus Parochial School & graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1939. He worked during World War II in various Calumet area steel mills and oil refineries. During this time he studied at American Technical School and Purdue University, receiving a degree in Business Management. In 1945, he attended National Chiropractic College in Chicago, IL (now Lombard, IL) graduating in May of 1949 summa cum laude. He passed the board exams of Iowa, Illinois and Indiana, obtaining one of the first Chiropractic licenses granted in Indiana. He practiced in East Chicago, IN; Gary, IN and Chicago, IL. In early 1952, Dr. Mach took over Dr. Justens' practice in Momence, IL. To accommodate the flourishing practice, a custom built office was opened in Momence in 1964 with a satellite office at his home on the west side of Kankakee, IL. Throughout his career he also received certificates and degrees in Naturopathy, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, Nutrition, Homeopathy, Reflexology, Iridology, Biomagnetism, Radionics and Light Therapy. He continued to hold licenses in the state of Illinois and Indiana until his retirement in 2006 Dr. Mach served from 1957-1958 as General Secretary of the Chiropractic Biophysic Research Organization. He also served as President of the Illinois Chiropractic Society's Central Region and Kankakee Toastmasters. He was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic church in Kankakee, IL serving as lector, usher, and a member of the advisory board. He married Rita Soucie Bishir in 1959 and in 1961 they were blessed with a son Michael and two years later a daughter, Michele. In addition to his children, Michael Mach (Lynne Park) of Wheaton, IL and Michele Mach (Steven Anderson) of Chicago, IL, he is survived by brothers: Eugene (Gabriella) Mack of Munster, IN; Frank (Elaine) Mack of Tucson, AZ and sister-in-law Olive Soucie of Bradley, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rita, and his sister Loretta Michalek. Cemetery: Inurnment will be in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Service: Funeral service will be on Thursday (October 11, 2012) at 10:00am at the Cotter Funeral Home. Visitation: Visitation will be on Wednesday (October 10, 2012) from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the Cotter Funeral Home.
